Meet our Enrichment Teachers!

This week we met our Enrichment Teachers – Music with Mr. Tom, Spanish with Miss Vicky, and Yoga with Miss Devika.  I posted the visit from Sofia’s Cello teacher, Sara Bennett Wolfe, last week.  Her boss at TESS was nice enough to offer a $150 gift certificate for Cello lessons to the first family who signs up – just mention you met her through us at On School Road!

I would like to introduce you to the classes your children participate in.

Music with Tom Weber –

Tom is a “big kid” – who loves to sing and play!  He introduces the children to music, language, and story through instruments, puppets, and movement.  This is a very interactive class where the children participate by playing instruments, singing and acting out the songs with toys, puppets and dance. To learn more about Tom, his website is www.tomweber.net

Spanish with Vicky Kantor-

Señora Vicky uses music, movement, stories and games to make the Spanish language learning experience more memorable for preschoolers.  This is the prime age for language acquisition and she grabs the children’s attention with a fun, and playful class!  Some of the activities that children will engage in include: finger play, mimicking, puppet shows, listening and singing of traditional Spanish songs.  This weekly class follows the 3’s and 4’s curriculum closely and provides children with the basic vocabulary and awareness to function in a second language setting.  Song lyrics and general vocabulary handouts will be sent home periodically to reinforce learning with the family.  Señora Vicky is a native Spanish speaker from Argentina with an MA in Bilingual Ed. from Fairfield University as well as a Wilton mom.  She teaches Spanish classes after school, to Pre-K through Third Grade students at Comstock.

For more information you can email her at victoriakantor@hotmail.com

Yoga with Devika Santos-

Devika Santos began her Yoga practice at the age of 6.  She studied with senior teachers of the Iyengar and Bihar schools in her native India.  Having developed a life-long appreciation for the gifts that yoga brings to daily living, she has completed a teacher training program specializing in teaching yoga to children. Her goal is to bring yoga to children in her community, here in Wilton.
Children, being flexible and curious, are natural yogis. The benefits they gain from yoga practice are strength, confidence, focus and calm.  The classes incorporate breathing, stretching, balance and co-operation as the children explore movement and yoga poses through music and games.

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know our Enrichment Teachers as much as your children have.  Check your cubbies for handouts from these classes!
